FLYING: DRONES/Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS)
What can you do in this project?
- Discuss individual youth goals and fair project options.
- Explore Drone/UAS/UAV definition, types, parts, controls, basic features.
- Explore regulations, safety, and ethics for operating drones.
- Explore drone operations in details: physics, electronics, etc.
- Explore flight basics, flight dynamics, forces of flight.
- Practice drone flying the develop pilot skills, including navigation around and through obstacles.
- Explore advanced drone features, conveniences, autonomous flight, sensors, etc.
- Explore careers and uses of drones beyond recreation.
- Explore and experience FPV vs photography/videography and other recreational uses of drones.
- Building a drone from scratch, trade-offs in range, battery, weight, etc.
- Other miscellaneous topics such as battery safety and care.
Ages: 3rd grade and older
Cost: $90 per member (includes a drone). Note: exceptions on a case-by-case basis if the youth already has a drone.
Equipment Needed:
- Contact Project Leader.
Project Add Deadline: TBA.
Location: Ozaukee County Fairgrounds, see below for specific building
Times: TBA. (based on youth members availability & meeting space availability)
2023-2024 Dates:
- 2023-2024 project dates TBA. (based on youth members availability & meeting space availability)
- 6-8 project group meetings will be scheduled with location and schedule dependent on what works best for project group.
- Expectations is that meetings will be 2x/month starting in December 2023 or January 2024 and running through March 2024.
